Denim Billboard

denim, jean jacket, bleach, shopgoldrush, tie dye
The other day at lunch my friend Britt implored me to be my own advertisement for my clothes. She said I should be wearing the clothes I make everywhere and talking about them all the time.  I've been keeping the things I make neatly tucked away in a side closet until someone buys them and haven't made anything for myself. Her words inspired me to get busy on the denim jacket I promised myself.
You see, I've been craving a denim jacket, but I haven't been able to justify buying the one I want for $100+ when 1) I am on a tight debtbuster's budget, and 2) I am constantly making things out of denim.  So for the last couple months I've had my eye out for a denim jacket under $8 I could modify using my SKILLZZZ.
I finally found this oversized denim barn jacket for $1 (no lie) a few weeks ago. It was the perfect shade of dark blue for me to go to town with my bleach. When I bought it thought I would use it for material for a Shopgoldrush product, but with the encouragement from my friend to do some shameless self-promotion, I chose to shape it into an Trishawna-sized billboard for my clothes.
I did a special prayer of bleach blessing over it as I dunked it in the tub. What came out was nothing short of electrifying. It looks like a freaking lightning strike. Even I, the bleach monster, have never seen anything like it.
After the blessed bleaching I fitted that very large jacket to my body, taking in the side seams four inches on each side and completely reshaping the armhole. Voila!...My very own designer jacket.
I will probably have this jacket on my body 100% of the minutes until the weather turns cold enough to warrant warmer layers.  If you compliment me on it I will tell you all about it, in my 30 second plug for the clothes I make. You may even get a business card. And if you find yourself caught in my sales pitch, just give me a triple wink and stick out your tongue in a westerly direction.  That will be our secret signal so I know that you know about my $1 jacket I made into a $200 jacket on bleach & a prayer (and a fair amount of tailoring).
