The Life and Vines of Alabama

Our time in Alabama did not consist entirely of me romping half-mad through a cotton field. We did a lot of other things too, I mean, we went to my friends' wedding, which was our reason for taking such an extreme detour south when our end destination was Boston.

Before we made it to the Alabama Coast for the wedding, we took another one of what we called "lunch stops" in Birmingham at the Civil Rights Museum.  If you are ever passing through Birmingham, I recommend you check this place out. The most fascinating thing to me were the timelines throughout the museum that showed what was happening in civil rights on a national level in the upper portion and in the lower portion what was happening in Alabama, which was usually light years behind.  Although we were thoroughly impressed, our biggest disappointment about the museum was that we couldn't take pictures.

The wedding was just outside the city of Fairhope, population 16,479.  We had plenty* of time to roam picturesque downtown Fairhope, and we found creative ways to entertain ourselves.

I'm sorry to say I didn't get a lot of good pictures at the wedding, it might have been because I was distracted by the amazing New Orleanian band that played at the reception. This next video will probably not surprise you, considering my propensity toward dancing. Please watch the faces of the band members; I think they may have been laughing at me...

Then the best man pulled this move.  I'm not sure what it's called, but I need to get it into one of my dance videos.

Colin and I don't claim to be foodies.  For most of the road trip we would cram as many activities as we could in a city and then drive a away with a burger in our hands.  We took some time to sit down at Cracker Barrel, as no road trip would be complete without it.
