Hitched.

wedding, nontraditional, courthouse, red dress, winter, Nebraska, Omaha
We interrupt this coverage of Rediscovering America Road Trip 2013 to announce the marriage of my sister Tana Banana to Michael Arcega.  In non-traditional fashion they wed at Omaha's courthouse on a Monday with Tana wearing a red wool dress.*  I was with Tana last Christmas when she happened onto the dress at Maud Boutique in Omaha.  Tana said she knew right away it was the type of dress she wanted to wear on her wedding day, but at the time she had not yet met da groom.
Her new husband is a multi-disciplinary artist, which means he'll use aNytHinG and EvEryThiNg to get his artistic point across.  I first met Michael at an art opening in Laguna Beach, California, where a piece from his SPAM/MAPS series was on display.  SPAM/MAPS is a "...series of maps made of Spam luncheon meat. Spam was used as ration by the United States Armed Forces during WWII. It ultimately spread through many Pacific Island nations as a standard source of meat. Spam’s diasporic nature is symbolic of America’s ongoing influence on many nations. S-P-A-M is M-A-P-S in reverse," according to Michael's website.  Basically, the first thing I knew about this guy, besides the fact that he loved my sister, was that he had spent countless hours carving miniature countries out of Spam.  So, obviously, I liked him right away.

*My mom got married in a royal blue wool suit, so I suppose Tana was just following family tradition rather than cultural tradition.

Like any normal wedding, we had to go through security first.

All four sisters...you may recognize my yellow suit from my October 31st post
I make no apologies for wearing my Halloween costume to my sister's wedding.
Little did we know, Michael's family is also the #filipinopaparazzi.
There are seven or eight more cameras that can't be seen in this photo.
Okay, okay, a few of them were from the Quincy side.
Obligatory wedding day selfie.

My favorite shot of the day...drinks after the ceremony at Krug Park.

*Special apologies to my other bro-in-laws, the photos of you did not make the final blog edit.
You are still beautiful.*

  1. Regarding your fine yellow suit -- I wore a strikingly similar ensemble on my first day of third grade. Mine was less sophisticated and was complemented with a puffy bear on the front, but similar vision. Oh the memories!
